Sydney’s conscious suburb

When it comes to eco-consciousness, there is no doubt you can get around in Sydney as this city is way ahead of it’s time. But there is one suburb in particular that seems to have it all. Meet Newtown!

Newtown is a vibrant neighbourhood located approximately four kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district and home to a wide range of fine eateries, bohemian style vintage shops and bustling pubs. Head down to King St, where you will find many eco hotspots.

Coming from meat loving Singapore, it is safe to say that Newtown is an absolute vegan heaven. A wide range of vegan and vegetarian eateries are located on King Street such as a vegetarian Thai, a vegan Vietnamese and several Western options like Lentil as Anything.

Safe room for dessert! At Gelato Blue you will find amazing non-diary ice cream, made of super creamy coconut milk. From experience, the mint-chocolate scoop is highly recommended.

Head to Dr Earth for an eclectic range or organic, natural, health and eco lifestyle products.

In for a new outfit? Many vintage and second hand stores are located at King Street: Cream on King, Scraggs House Of Fashion and Vinnies are amongst them.

At Ecodownunder, you will find accessories for bed, bad and beach. All items are made of eco-friendly and organic fabrics.

Newtown is easy accessible by train. Even more fun is to book one of the many AirBnB options, as you might want to extend your visit to watch a movie at Dendy cinema and grab a beer in one of the vibrant pubs afterwards. However you choose to spend your time here, Newtown won’t let you down!
